The Part of You That Hasn't Happened Yet

Quite often, what I find in the work that I do is that we spend a lot of time looking backwards.

Trying to understand ourselves.

Trying to make sense of what happened.

Trying to figure out why we are the way we are.

And while I think there's value in that, I certainly have discovered that it isn't the whole story.

Because if all we ever do is look backwards, we can begin to believe that who we've been is who we are.

And I'm not sure that's true.

Yes, your experiences matter.

Yes, your past belongs to you.

Yes, everything you've lived through has shaped you in some way.

But shaped you and defined you are not the same thing.

What if your past is only a piece of the story?

What if there is a part of you that hasn't happened yet?

I love that question.

Not because I think you're broken and need fixing.

Not because I think you need to become someone else.

But because life keeps moving.

And as life moves, we continue to discover things about ourselves.

New strengths.

New desires.

New possibilities.

New ways of being.

Things that couldn't have been discovered ten years ago because they simply hadn't happened yet.

So much of who you are is still becoming.

Given everything you've experienced...

Given everything you've learned...

Given everything you've survived...

Now what?

What might become available if you were willing to look forward—not because your past doesn't matter, but because it isn't the only thing that matters?

What if you allowed yourself to be curious about the part of you that is still unfolding?

The part of you that hasn't happened yet.
